One of the more common side effects people get when they are taking antibiotics is diarrhea or gastrointestinal issues. This is because the antibiotic can wipe out certain normal and healthy bacteria in our GI tract that breaks down food and helps us absorb it into our body. One of the most important ways to help with this is to take a Probiotic that will help get the bacterial flora in our intestines back to normal. The one we recommend that we feel is most effective is Florajen Digestion. It is a refrigerated item and can be found at many drug stores or on the internet. This is my go-to probiotic, and we usually recommend taking it once a day with a meal.
For best results we also recommend that patients also take a natural prebiotic that is easily digested such as a ripe banana. Prebiotics function as a food source for the probiotics to help replace the natural or healthy bacteria that have become affected.
